We communicate appropriately with each other

Safe, respectful learners use calm words, a calm voice and safe body language. Teach it Monday for 10 minutes, then keep pointing back to it all week.

Monday assembly

  • 5–7 minutes, under the COLA after the bell
  • Practise the focus + a regulation strategy

Giving a feather

  • Hand it over with a direct comment on why
  • Reward the behaviour the moment you see it
  • Colour by stage — ES1 red, S1 blue, S2 yellow, S3 white

Feathers

A feather explicitly rewards a desired behaviour. The moment matters more than the token — always say what the student did and which value it showed.

Nest chart & FBI

Feathers go into a shared class container — it's a team effort. Each Monday the F.B.I. (Feather Board Inspectors) count them and move classes up the Nest Chart.

PBL Rewards Day

F.B.I. Monday mission:

  • Collect class containers and count feathers in bundles of 50
  • Leave the rollover remainder for next week (e.g. 67 = 50 + 17)
  • Move the class marker, then feed the whole-school display box

Assemblies

A quick whole-school assembly every Monday morning keeps the PBL focus consistent across the school.

  • 5–7 minutes, lined up under the COLA after the bell
  • Introduce the fortnight's focus and practise one regulation strategy
  • Nikki leads · rolls marked after · teachers walk classes off in lines
Ready to Learn

A consistent "Ready to Learn" language and chart in every classroom, used to manage behaviour proactively and without punishment.

  • Same R2L charts and wording across all classrooms
  • Supports calm, predictable transitions and re-regulation
  • Pairs with the Berry Street Morning Circle routine

How to respond

Three tiers of response, with everything recorded in School Bytes. Call DP/P immediately if there is any safety concern.

Minor — SLSO or teacher de-escalates; the teacher records the incident in School Bytes.
Major — teacher consults the Assistant Principal; record in School Bytes, AP adds notes and communicates with family.
Executive — call the office for executive support; the executive assesses, records, and contacts the family.
